Beaded Necklace: Cut strips of colorful magazine pages into very long and very thin triangles. Starting with the wider end, roll the strips around a pencil or a straw. Once the strip is rolled to the tip, place some glue on your "bead" to hold it together then remove it from the straw and let it dry. Continue this process until your child has enough beads to string on a cord to make a necklace. Variation: String beads onto a shorter length of cord to make a matching bracelet or
anklet.
Fantasy Crown: Cut a piece of corrugated cardboard into strips about 2 inches wide and long enough to fit around your child's head. The cardboard should be easier to manipulate into a crown if you first roll it to gain some flexibility. Place it on your childs head and staple the ends together so it fits snugly (place some tape over rough edges of staples if they do not get covered with decorations). You may want to fit it above the ears so it has a place to rest. Have your child use his or her imagination to decorate the crown. Some ideas are: use foil to make it shiny; use stickers, felt and construction paper to make designs on the crown; use colored pipe cleaners and insert them into the top of the crown (through the corrugated part) and bend them to make whimsical shapes and goofy antennae; use pom pom balls and glitter for added decoration. Variation: Staple two more strips of cardboard to the crown. one from front to back the
other from one side to the other side. Cut a small noseguard from the cardboard and staple
it in place. Cover the strips of cardboard with foil and decorate. You now have a
knights helmet. (See the instructions below on how to make a shield).
Knights Shield: Flatten out a large cardboard box and cut from it a shield shape. This
shape can be almost any shape, but round and "U" shapes are the most common.
Paint the shield bright colors and maybe think about adding a crest or emblem to the
front. To fashion a handle, tape a strip of cardboard to the back using sturdy tape
(packaging or duct tape work well).
