Sibling Rivalry
Tips On Raising Siblings For Moms, From Moms

  • We created what we call a "Best Sister Award".  Each day, our girls start out with 5 "tickets" which are placed in a pretty pink pocket created just for this purpose.  Each time the girls get in trouble for fighting, we move a ticket out of the pocket.  Tickets can be earned back for extra special  best sister behavior.  As long as there is at least one ticket left at the end of the day, they will get a "Best Sister Award", which usually consists of a treat or special movie or game.  (From Noelle)

  • Buy your child a realistic looking baby doll, and have her take home her own baby from the hospital, diaper and all. Type up a mock birth certificate to make it seem even more important, and ask the nurses for hospital wrist band for the baby doll to wear. (From The Mom Book)

  • For twins or children close in age, reward both children when one has success. This works especially well with potty training and other milestones, where you want to avoid creating competition between siblings. (From The Mom Book)
