Here are some more great hats to make with your grandkids.

This beanie hat is also easy to make.  Cut a paper bag in half and use the top half.  Gather one open end together and fasten tightly with a piece of string.  Then fold the bottom edges up.  Decorate the beanie with campaign buttons or bright pieces of paper.

This tall clown's hat can be made by forming a cone shape with a 12 x 18 inch sheet of paper.  Paste the cone together and trim the bottom edge so that it's even.  Decorate the sides with large dots cut from colored paper and pasted on.  Make a large pom pon from yarn for the very top.

A top hat can be made by forming a large paper tube that will just rest on your head.  Then cut a paper circle to fit over the tip end.  Attach a circle to the tube with cellophane tape.    Cut a brim to fit around the outside edge of the bottom and fasten on with tape, too.  Add a colorful headband.

To make a policeman's hat, cut a strip of paper about 4 inches wide and paste or staple it together, end to end, so that it just fits your head.  Then cut a circle to fit as top and tape into place.  The visor front can be cut to fit and taped into place.  Paint the had a dark blue and add a gold badge at the front and a little bit of braid made from thing rope or cord painted gold.
