Welcome
to emommieNews
|
Just a little bit
late, but worth it. This months issue of emommieNews is jam
packed with all kinds of great info. I held off publishing it
because I knew there were going to be a lot of changes that you'd
want to know about. I'd rather send them all out at once so
nothing gets overlooked.
Now that the kids are back in school, hopefully all you emommies
out there will have the time to check in with emommies.net more
often. It's been a great summer. The weather here in
Ohio was beautiful. I hope you were able to enjoy the sun and
sand [box] in your neck of the world as well.
Make sure to read this issue carefully. It will have
important information on the new changes at emommies.net. This
is especially important if you are a mom who owns her own
business. You don't want to miss out on exciting, FREE ways to
promote your products and services.
emommies.net is running a
special promotion for the month of September. Save when you
purchase ad space on the emommies.net site. One ad, save 10%,
two ads save 20% on each ad, three ads save 30% on each ad.
You can't beat a deal like that. At least I don't think you
can. :-) Remember, you want to act now to get your

Time-In vs. Time-Out:
Effective Discipline Ideas
by Rachel Webb
Hey
moms! Have you ever put yourself in time-out? I have! Sometimes
I want time-out from the house-work. Time-out from fighting
kids. Time-out from laundry. My problem is that I often don't
want to come out of "time-out". My room is peaceful
and I can avoid all the negative that real life can bring with
it. I like time-out and I don't care if I ever let myself out of
my room for "Time-In". I'm sure I'm not the only mom
out there who has felt like this, but what can we learn from it
to become better parents?
Using
Time-out for bad behavior is hardly a new concept and every
classroom I have ever been in has used it in some form or
another. But as our child's "teachers" in life, we
need to be reminded about the rules for a successful time-out.
TIME-IN!
Time Out will not be effective if you don't have time-in.
Time-in is the "Good Stuff" a child likes. If a child
has nothing to lose by going to time-out, and no incentive to be
apart of Time-in, it won't work.
Time-in
for fun with the rest of the family. Time-in for happy
activities. Time-in needs to seem like thee place to be and the
starkest contrast to time-out as you can make it appear. Just as
I need positive incentive to come out of my room and be the mom
again...kids need the incentive too. Sometimes when one of our
children is sent to time out my husband and I will immediately
start a family game or have an impromptu dance to their favorite
music. Anything to make time-in fun. Sometimes we will loudly
say, "Oh I wish so-&-so could be here to join us"
:) It is more effective said to other Time-in kids and family
members, where the time-out child can overhear, then if we say
it to them personally. Why?
NO
TALKING! You shouldn't talk to your child when they are in
time-out. The idea is to take away the good stuff for awhile and
your attention is one of those good things. Discussing their
inappropriate behavior can be talked about before and after
time-out, not during.
BE
A "5-1" PARENT For every time you your child goes to
time-out for misbehavior, provide 5 opportunities for them to
earn praise or reward.
END
WITH LOVE! When something has upset a child, having each parent
give an additional 50 touches a day is a good form of
"medicine." Remember this phrase: "When in Reach,
Reach Out!" As used in many pre-schools.

| What's
New @ emommies.net? |
|
So many changes, so little time. I'm constantly working on
making emommies.net a superior site. I want the emommies.net
community to be a welcoming and worthwhile place for moms to
visit. Please contact me with any ideas you have on what would
make our little cyber home even more cozy.
- Message
Boards ~ It seems like it was just last month I was
announcing that our message boards were new. Well, you can
imagine how disgruntled I was to find out that the new message
board host [Aimoo] was dropping their free service. So,
once again, I had to pack up and move. Well, I eventually
found my way back to Everyone.net. I sort of felt like the
prodigal daughter. Everyone.net was our message board host
originally. I'm not even sure why we left them. Must
have been the grass is greener sort of thing. Anyway,
we're back to Everyone.net and I hope we stay there. The
important thing to note though is that since we keep moving, our
message boards are suffering. So PLEASE!!!! Post, post,
post!!! I want all of us to get to know each other.
My goal is that emommies.net becomes a family of moms who
consider each other super friends. Wouldn't that be
awesome?!

Mommies Best Sites List ~ NEW NEW NEW!!! I ditched the
old top sites list because I was tired of it only working half
the time. Some of the sites with votes weren't even
showing up! I was getting no help from the tech support so
I kicked them to the curb and started a new list with another
company. It looks so nice!!! If you have a mom
related site, now is the time to get your site listed.
Your odds are really pretty good that you'll be a top
site. Hopefully it will take off and we can have some
nice, friendly competition!
- Share A Find ~ Below, you'll find our newest feature
section of the emommieNews newsletter. Share A Find.
This is not an advertising option. It is a way for us moms
to share products that we come across that we've found
helpful. If it works for you, it just might work for other
moms. So share those finds.

If you are a MommiesClub leader, please take a few minutes to
fill out the MC Update Form, to keep me
informed of your charter info. This will go a long way in
making it possible for me to help you with member recruitment.
It took me nearly 6 months to find the Spokane Mommies again and in
that time, at least a half dozen people inquired about that
club. Unfortunately I wasn't able to help them locate contact
info.
Also, we have several new MommiesClubs in the works. I'm
considering beginning a mentor program whereby experienced leaders
offer their help and advice to new leaders. Let
me know what you think.
emommies.net is proud to offer help to moms who
are interested in starting or joining playgroups. You can

Have you come across a product out there that is so cool, you feel a
need to spread the word? I'm not talking about advertising
your personal product line. But something you picked up at the
store that you think is the next best thing to sliced bread?
If so, e-mail me and let us
know what it is.
I've decided to add this feature to the newsletter because I ran
across a product that I'd never heard of before and I thought
sounded interesting. I was at the store one day for my monthly
shop and I was in the feminine hygiene isle. I happened to
glance up at a box on the top shelf that had the title
"Instead" on it. I didn't' think much of it, only as
I was looking away, the words "Feminine Protection Cup"
caught my eye. I thought to myself, what in the world is a feminine
protection cup? So, I picked up the box and decided to find
out.
As it turns out, inside the box were soft, flexible cups that
were to be used to collect menstrual flow. This was the first
new alternative in female menstrual protection in something like 50
years! Wow, I had to try it. So, I bought a box.
It cost me about 45¢ per cup. I thought that was a little
high, but the box claimed that you could wear one for up to 12 hours
so I figured it would all even out in the end.
Well, a few days later I started my period and decided to give
the new product a try. (I had checked with my doctor
first) For those of you who know what a diaphragm
looks like, it's sort of along the same lines. Without getting
too graphic, it slips inside of your body and rests under your
cervix. Here it is able to collect the menstrual flow.
The product was great! I was able to wear it without
feeling a thing. It took a little practice to get used to
inserting it but after one or two tries, it was a snap. The
cool thing is that I never had any problems with leaking, even on my
heaviest days. I also didn't have any discomfort toward the
end like I usually did with tampons because, being non absorbent,
they don't affect your natural moisture. You can run (not that
I do), swim and have sex all without having to remove or replace
it. Pretty cool huh?
I haven't been able to find Insteads in very many stores, but
they do have a website that is very informative. Check them
out at http://www.insteads.com

Tip |

This month, make an effort to sincerely praise or compliment your
dh in public. Watch how his face lights up. You may even
witness a slight puffing out of his chest. :-) He'll be
riding on cloud nine all day and it can only make your relationship
better. He loves to be appreciated too.
Do you have a romantic tip that you would like to
share with other emommies? If so, contact Noelle.

~The Sex Question~
We're still talking about the sex question. What do you say
when your child comes to you with the question, "How are babies
made?" Or, what about when they come to you with
information that is totally off base? This month in one of the
multiple parent magazines I get (I forget which one) it talked
about how to respond when your child asks you "Did you wait
mom?" Well, most of us would agree that honesty is the
best policy. It's just not always the easiest. What are
your thoughts? Share them with us at "The

Picture Puzzles ~ Great for preschoolers
You'll need some favorite family photos. Don't worry, we'll
preserve them. Take several photos to your neighborhood copy
store and make color photocopies, enlarging the images so that they
cover the whole sheet of paper. One photo per page.
Then, take the photocopies back home and using laminating paper,
laminate them front and back. Once the paper is laminated, cut
the pictures into several pieces. You could even use the
scrapbooking puzzle stencils to make it more official looking.
The number of puzzle pieces should be appropriate for your
children. Here is a guide, but use your judgment.
2yrs (4-6 pieces)
3yrs (6-10 pieces)
4yrs (10+)
Once you've got your puzzle pieces, sit down and
share the puzzle with your toddler/preschooler. You can have
fun putting the puzzles together and talk about the people in the
pictures. It's a great way to share family history and
tradition. Give it a try.

Chicken soup for the soul
This is a great slow cook meal, especially when your little ones are sick and need some soup to help them feel better.
(Remember, school is back in session and so are the colds!)
4 C water
2 cans chicken broth
1 lb chicken breasts
1 TBSP cooking oil
5 stalks of chopped celery
1 medium onion, chopped finely
1/2 pkg dry wide egg noodles
5 cloves garlic, crushed
pinch oregano
pinch rosemary
salt to taste
Boil chicken in 4 C water in large stock pot until no longer pink. Add chicken broth and keep on medium heat.
In medium frying pan, warm oil. Add celery, onion and garlic and stir on medium heat until brown. Add to chicken stock pot and keep on low heat for 4-6 hours. 30 minutes before serving add seasonings, and bring back to rolling boil. Add noodles.
Super
yummy with fresh French bread.
~Thanks
chasenbabies for the recipe! It's sure to be a hit.

I've had more people contact me
this month with questions about how they can utilize emommies.net
to help improve traffic to their site. I know from comparing
various areas of the emommies site that many of the people who are
out there, aren't utilizing emommies.net in the most effective
manner.
We have had a great response
to our FREE Classified Ads section and the Share-A-Link has always
done well, but there is so much more out there for you at
emommies.net. In fact, most of the people who submit
classified ads, never even think to add their link to the
Share-A-Link section, and vice versa.
Because I want emommies.net
to be a wonderful resource for moms, I've decided to make it
simple. I'm going to list all the options I can think of
here. That way, as you're reading this, you can click on the
ones you've yet to complete. That way, you'll be sure to get
the best exposure possible! The cool thing is, that in
addition to helping out your site, you'll be helping out other
sites as well. The more traffic that goes through these
areas, the more likely that someone will benefit from it.
If you are a mom who doesn't
have a business to plug, consider checking out these areas anyway
to see what other moms have to offer you in the way of products
and services. I know you'd rather buy quality, handmade
products from a mom, than spend more money buying mediocre
products from a department store chain. Take this
opportunity to empower women in a way that benefits their family
and their finances.

as well so add an image while you're there. Please be
considerate though and only post your business plug in the section
entitled "The Business Side of Things". I have no
way to move your message once it's posted so if you post an ad in
another area, I'll have to delete it.
Guestbook
~ Speaking about free and easy, drop by the guestbook and let me
know what you think of emommies.net. And, while you're there
leave your banner or other image to plug your business. Just
in case you never knew this, people read guestbooks.
Newsletter Article ~ Do
you have experience to share on a mom related topic? How
about an opinion? If so, write an article for inclusion in
the emommieNews newsletter. At the bottom of the article,
add a byline to plug your business. It's a very affective
way to capture someone's attention. You can also write
articles for use in other areas of the emommies.net site, such as
AtWork, Caregivers, or Grandparents. Contact me if you have
any ideas for where best you'd fit.

~ Submit your site for an emommieAward. If your site is
chosen, it will be announced in our emommieNews as well as on the
emommies.net site. This is a perfect opportunity to get have
your logo delivered to the inboxes of your next customers.
Contests ~ If you have a product that
would be of interest to other moms, consider offering it as a
prize in one of our contests. This is a new option.
I'm in the middle of revamping our Contest section and this would
be a great way to get traffic to your site. Sponsor an
emommies.net Contest. You may even get to choose the
Contest!
Paid Advertising ~
Check out our prices for advertising your site on the emommies.net
site. They are so affordable and the space is prime. I
have made it a point to remove all my affiliate banners from the
emommies website. I want to dedicate all advertising space
to small mom owned and operated sites. It makes more sense
to me that you get the business as opposed to all the well
established multi-million dollar businesses that are run by boards
of trustees or other major corporations.
Well, that's about all I can
think of. Not bad huh? If you have any other ideas on
how I can help you out, feel free to e-mail
me.
